Chapter 50- THE LEDGER OPENED EVERY DOORPeter survived.

So did Vivian.

The gunshot had struck an empty oxygen tank.

Within hours, my father decrypted the master ledger. It identified dozens of fraudulent contracts, bribed officials and shipments of defective surgical equipment.

Grant attempted to negotiate immunity by offering testimony against Peter and Vivian.

His request was denied.

The video of him building the false case against me destroyed his claim that he had acted under pressure. Natalie’s recordings proved he had participated willingly for years.

Vivian blamed both sons.

Peter blamed Mercer.

The corrupt police officer blamed his captain.

The captain blamed a dead business partner.

The truth spread outward like cracks through glass.

Holloway Medical Supply was seized.

The family trust was frozen, then restored to its lawful beneficiaries.

Emma and I returned to the house only once.

Grant’s family portraits still covered the walls.

Emma studied them quietly.

“Were they ever happy?”

“They were happy when everyone obeyed them.”

“That isn’t happy.”

“No,” I said. “It isn’t.”
