Agent Mercer separated us and placed Emma beside Natalie in the warm SUV. He asked me to identify the financial records and explain why Grant had access to my signature.
I told him the truth.
For years, Grant had managed every document in our marriage. Tax filings, insurance forms, property transfers. Whenever I asked questions, he accused me of distrusting him.
Mercer listened without interruption.
“Your husband has been using Holloway Medical Supply to move counterfeit hospital equipment through legitimate contracts,” he said.
I stared at him.
“That could kill people.”
“It may already have.”
The forged account in my name was designed to receive the profits. If investigators discovered the scheme, the evidence would lead to me.
Grant had not merely stolen my inheritance.
He had built an escape route using my identity.
