Chapter 47- THE AGENT WHO OPENED THE CELLMercer admitted he had temporarily released Vivian to use her as bait.

He had not told us because he believed my father would interfere.
Vivian escaped before agents could track her to Peter.
My father seized Mercer by the collar.
“You gambled with my granddaughter.”
Mercer did not resist.
“I made the wrong call.”
“No,” I said. “You made the useful call.”
Both men looked at me.
Vivian wanted control. Peter wanted the ledger. Grant wanted immunity.
Their alliance was already breaking.
I called Vivian’s private number.
She answered on the first ring.
“Claire.”
“You spent your life making your children compete for your approval.”
“What do you want?”
“To tell you Peter plans to give Grant immunity and blame everything on you.”
Silence.
It was a lie.
But it was the kind of lie Vivian could never ignore.
“Where is Peter?” I asked.
She disconnected.
