Chapter 35- THE BADGE IN GRANT’S POCKETThe older officer froze.

Grant’s gaze snapped toward Natalie.

She held up a printed spreadsheet.

Payments had been made each month to a consulting company owned by the officer’s wife.

The officer released my arm.

“Where did you get that?”

“From my brother’s private server.”

Grant lunged toward her.

The younger officer intercepted him, but Grant twisted free and drove his shoulder into Natalie. She struck the side of a patrol car and fell.

Emma screamed.

This time, Grant could not reshape the story.

Four phones recorded him attacking his own sister in front of two officers.

The older officer backed away as if distance could erase his involvement.

Then a black SUV stopped at the curb.

A man in a dark overcoat stepped out and displayed federal credentials.

Agent Daniel Mercer looked first at me, then at Grant.

“Mr. Holloway,” he said, “take your hand out of your pocket.”

Grant did not move.

Mercer repeated the command.

Grant slowly withdrew a police captain’s badge.
