Chapter 41- PETER WAS NEVER THE WEAK ONEPeter disappeared before federal agents searched the family home.

Grant insisted he did not know where his brother had gone.

Vivian refused to speak.

But Emma remembered something.

“Uncle Peter always goes to the old hospital when he’s mad.”

The abandoned St. Catherine’s Hospital stood outside Dayton. Holloway Medical Supply had purchased it through a shell company five years earlier.

Mercer assembled a team.

I was ordered to remain at the secure office.

I agreed.

Then I stole the storage key from the evidence envelope and left through the service exit.

The number stamped on the key matched a storage company less than two miles from the hospital.

I did not intend to play hero.

I needed to know whether Vivian had told the truth about my father.

Inside the storage unit, I found old medical records, photographs of nighttime shipments and a cassette recorder.

I pressed play.

My father’s voice filled the darkness.

“Claire, if you hear this, Peter has already found me.”

Something moved behind the stacked boxes.
