Chapter 15 - The Man Who Wanted the Car to FailThe investigation took seven more weeks.

Scott initially admitted entering the garage but denied touching Rachel’s brakes.
That position collapsed slowly.
The prepaid number used to text Dean was eventually connected to an old racing-services account associated with Scott.
Tyler identified him as the man he had seen near the service entrance.
The missing line cutter carried material consistent with the borrowed gloves Scott had access to.
Under increasing legal pressure, Scott finally admitted the truth.
Evan Bennett had asked him to gather information about Harwood Racing because Bennett was considering Logan’s offer to buy into the struggling team.
But investigators found no evidence Evan told Scott to sabotage Rachel’s car.
Scott claimed the brake damage was his idea.
He didn’t intend to kill Rachel.
He expected the weakened line to fail during low-speed warm-up.
His goal was to embarrass Mason, damage Harwood Racing’s safety reputation, and push Logan into selling at a lower price.
Instead, the line survived the warm-up.
It failed later.
At racing speed.
Rachel crashed.
Scott faced criminal charges for the tampering.
Bennett Performance fired him and denied authorizing sabotage.
Logan faced no sabotage charge.
But the investigation exposed his secret business negotiations, lies, and willingness to hide decisions from Rachel to keep control of the team.
Rachel moved out.
She and Logan separated.
She did not file for divorce immediately.
Harwood Racing nearly collapsed after Caldwell froze its sponsorship.
Rachel eventually negotiated a temporary sponsorship extension on the condition that Logan step away from daily team control and new safety procedures be introduced.
Mason stayed.
Tyler left for another team after admitting how badly he had compromised Rachel’s trust.
Frank returned only as an independent mechanical adviser.
Three months later, Rachel stood beside a newly rebuilt race car during a private test session.
Frank tightened one final fitting.
“You sure about this?”
Rachel smiled beneath the edge of her helmet.
“No.”
Frank raised an eyebrow.
“That supposed to make me feel better?”
“Nope.”
Across the paddock, Logan stood behind the safety barrier.
He had asked Rachel if he could attend.
She had said yes.
Nothing more.
Frank followed her gaze.
“You want me to tell him to leave?”
Rachel shook her head.
“No.”
She pulled on her gloves.
“For once, let him stand there and wonder what I’m going to choose.”
Rachel climbed into the car.
The engine roared to life.
Frank stepped back.
She rolled toward pit lane while Logan remained behind the barrier, watching the wife whose career he had tried so hard to keep attached to his own.
Frank still didn’t know whether Rachel would ever forgive him.
May you like
Rachel didn’t know either.
But this time, the decision belonged completely to her.
