Chapter 12 - Mason’s Silence Finally Made SenseMason had seen Tyler beside Rachel’s brake bay after the official inspection.

He had never told Frank.

“Why?”

Mason looked ashamed.

“Because I trained him.”

Tyler had joined the team young.

Mason trusted him like family.

After Rachel’s crash, Mason remembered seeing Tyler there and convinced himself it meant nothing.

Another adult protecting someone because the truth hurt too much.

Tyler denied cutting the line.

But under questioning, he admitted Bennett Performance had offered him a job six weeks earlier.

Rachel stared at him.

“You were planning to leave?”

“Maybe.”

“Did Evan ask about our car?”

“He asked general questions.”

“How general?”

Tyler stopped answering.

His attorney ended the interview.

Then investigators found the missing brake-line cutter.

It had been thrown into a waste-oil drum near the rear garage entrance.

On the handle was adhesive residue.

Black and red.

The same colors Mason used to reinforce the wrists of his work gloves.

Rachel looked toward the crew chief.

Mason stared at the evidence photograph.
