Chapter 9 - EMILY DIDN’T WANT TO BE THE GIRL FROM FLIGHT 101
Emily returned to Minneapolis two days later.
Her physical recovery was fast.
The social part was worse.
Someone at school discovered what happened.
By lunch, two classmates had seen a repost describing her as “the pilot’s daughter who forced a plane to land.”
One boy asked whether her dad would land a flight if she forgot her homework.
Emily went to the bathroom and called Rachel.
She wanted to transfer schools.
Rachel wanted to fight everybody.
Daniel did something different.
He asked Emily what she wanted adults to do.
“Nothing public.”
“You sure?”
“I don’t want people knowing about my diabetes because some woman poured coffee on me.”
That answer changed how Daniel approached the airline.
He stopped pushing for a public statement naming Karen or describing Emily’s condition in detail.
The airline could correct false information without turning his daughter into evidence for public consumption.
Emily’s privacy mattered more than Daniel clearing his name quickly.
That choice cost him.
Rumors lasted longer.
Some pilots quietly wondered what really happened.
