Karen asked through attorneys to provide a formal statement.
Her lawyer advised against emotional explanations.
She gave one anyway.
For years, Karen had built her identity around access.
Airport lounges.
Priority lines.
Hotel upgrades.
Private events through Charles’s business.
She was not wealthy enough to own jets.
She was wealthy enough to become accustomed to never being told no.
When Melissa refused to move Emily, Karen felt publicly diminished.
Then she learned Emily was connected to the captain.
That transformed embarrassment into resentment.
To Karen, the girl became proof of everything Charles complained about.
Insiders helping insiders.
Employees getting privileges customers could not.
Karen did not investigate whether any of that was true.
Truth would have weakened the grievance she wanted.
“When she slept there like she owned the place,” Karen said during one interview, “I lost my temper.”
The investigator corrected her.
“She was a twelve-year-old child assigned to a seat.”
Karen looked down.
For the first time, the sentence sounded as ugly as the facts.
Her motive had layers.
Status anxiety.
Loyalty to Charles.
Humiliation.
Entitlement.
