Chapter 11 - THE PEOPLE KAREN DRAGGED DOWN WITH HER

Whitmore Aero Services employed sixty-three people.

Mechanics.

Schedulers.

Inspectors.

Office staff.

Most had no idea what Charles and Karen had been doing.

When the contract bid was suspended, rumors spread immediately.

Employees worried about layoffs.

Charles began telling staff the airline was retaliating because of a private family incident.

Daniel heard about it through a maintenance supervisor he knew.

For a moment, he felt guilty.

Then he recognized the same manipulation Karen had used in the cabin.

Make the person enforcing a boundary feel responsible for the consequences of violating it.

Daniel was not awarding the contract.

He was not investigating Charles.

He was not asking the airline to punish workers.

He gave investigators only what he knew.

The procurement committee would decide the rest.

Meanwhile, Karen’s case moved through separate channels.

Witness statements established that she deliberately poured coffee and interfered with Emily’s access to medication.

Federal and local authorities reviewed which statutes applied.

The airline placed Karen on its no-fly list pending final internal determination.

Charles’s corporate consequences did not erase Karen’s personal responsibility.

Nor did Karen’s actions automatically prove every allegation against Charles’s company.
