Chapter 8 - THE DECISION THAT COULD COST CHLOE HER WEDDING

Daniel suspended the wedding’s use of Bayfront Pavilion.
Not canceled.
Suspended.
Until trust counsel determined whether any agreements Linda or Raymond had signed created risk to Chloe’s beneficial interest.
Chloe exploded.
“You can’t do this four days before my wedding.”
“I can as trustee.”
“That’s exactly what Mom says you do. You use control when you’re hurt.”
The accusation landed because there was truth inside it.
Daniel took a breath.
“If Marissa clears everything tomorrow, the wedding proceeds.”
“And if she doesn’t?”
“We find another venue.”
“In three days?”
“I’ll pay for it.”
“This isn’t about money!”
“I know.”
“Do you?”
Daniel let her finish.
Chloe was crying now.
“You lied about my father for twenty-nine years. Then the second I choose him for one thing, suddenly the place I’ve dreamed of getting married becomes leverage.”
Daniel’s voice stayed quiet.
“That’s why I’m not making the legal review myself.”
She stared at him.
“You still expect me to believe this isn’t punishment?”
“No.”
That surprised her.
“I expect you to watch what I do next.”
Daniel sent every relevant trust document to the independent co-trustee.
He authorized Marissa to speak directly with Chloe’s own lawyer.
Not Daniel’s.
Chloe had never needed one before.
Now she did.
That cost Daniel emotionally.
His daughter needed independent counsel because she could no longer assume her father’s interests perfectly matched hers.
It was healthier.
It still hurt.
The wedding consequences spread.
Vendors panicked.
Chloe’s fiancé, Ben Foster, finally stepped into the family conflict.
He had stayed mostly outside it because Chloe asked him to.
Now he said:
“We can postpone.”
Chloe stared at him.
“No.”
“Chloe.”
“No. I am not letting my parents destroy my wedding.”
Ben answered carefully.
“Then don’t destroy yourself trying to prove they can’t.”
That stopped her.
Meanwhile Raymond reacted badly to Daniel’s suspension.
He called Linda.
Then the caterer.
Then Bayfront’s event manager.
He tried to assure everyone the wedding would continue.
The event manager called Daniel immediately.
“Mr. Cole says control of the property is being transferred Monday.”
Daniel looked toward the trust document.
“There is no authorized transfer.”
“I figured.”
“Did he say who told him there was?”
“Yes.”
Daniel waited.
“Mrs. Reed.”
Daniel closed his eyes.
Linda had not merely believed Raymond’s plan.

She had been publicly representing it as something already decided.
Now the family’s private betrayal was beginning to create professional and legal consequences none of them could dismiss as emotion.
