Chapter 7 - The Video Victor Ordered Her to Make

Nora met with her own attorney before speaking to investigators.

She admitted Victor told her to record the confrontation.

His plan was to capture me screaming, throwing something, or threatening the family.

He wanted evidence that pregnancy and stress had made me unstable.

If I refused the lender certification and later accused him of coercion, he intended to argue that my professional judgment had deteriorated.

Helena approved the idea.

Raul knew a confrontation was planned but claimed he expected only a family conversation.

Nora positioned herself near the windows before Victor entered the room.

Then he slapped me.

She kept recording.

“Why?” I asked when we finally met through attorneys.

Nora stared at the table.

“Because once he hit you, I knew he would blame someone.”

“You laughed.”

“My mother was looking at me.”

“You filmed while he dragged me by the hair.”

“I know.”

The words sounded thin.

She had participated.

Fear did not convert cruelty into innocence.

But her recording captured facts the family could not easily reshape.

Victor demanding my signature.

Helena telling him to hit me again.

Raul laughing.

My refusal.

Victor smashing my phone.

Nora’s own voice mocking me.

Then the buzz on her phone.

Alex outside.

The recording also captured what happened after security entered.

Victor whispered to Nora:

Delete everything before she gets the bank involved.

That sentence connected the violence directly to the financial dispute.

The investigation deepened.

Nora provided access to North Shore records and admitted she created the company at Victor’s request.

She said Victor told her it was temporary treasury management.

When she realized money was being moved to manipulate lender reports, she began keeping copies.

That explained why she visited Alex’s apartment.

She took the North Shore statement because she feared I would confront Victor with it while still living with him.

“Why didn’t you just tell me?”

“Because then I’d have to admit my name was on it.”

Nora had been protecting herself.

She had also, accidentally, protected evidence.

The pattern became visible.

Victor used everyone’s shame as leverage.

My fear of divorce.

Nora’s financial exposure.

Helena’s obsession with status.

Raul’s fear of losing his retirement.

The only person who had stopped cooperating was me.

That was why the family meeting became violent.
