The major twist arrived through timing.
Claire had contacted Daniel’s accountant about selling Maribel.
Then she inspected the rescue capsule.
Then she asked Rachel what could force Daniel to let go of sentimental things.
Then, the day before the storm, she asked Daniel’s CFO what would happen if Daniel suffered an emotional collapse.
Those facts reinterpreted everything.
Claire had two fears.

The money tied up in keeping both alive.
The second was Daniel’s company.
Six months earlier, Daniel had rejected an acquisition offer that would have made their finances far safer.
Claire wanted him to accept.
Daniel refused because he believed the offer undervalued a company he had spent fifteen years building.
Claire saw the same pattern twice.
He would not sell Maribel.

She had convinced herself it was intervention.
That belief made the betrayal worse.
Daniel confronted her during a structured meeting with attorneys present.
“You wanted me broken.”
Claire shook her head.
“I wanted you reachable.”
“You used my daughter to make me reachable.”
“You were drowning us financially.”
“So you taught Lily what drowning felt like?”
Claire looked down.
Daniel’s voice cracked.
“You could’ve left me.”
“I didn’t want to leave.”
“You could’ve told me I was destroying the marriage.”
“I did.”
“No. You told me to sell things.”
Claire finally looked at him.
“Because whenever I said I was scared, you treated fear like bad math.”
That accusation landed.
Daniel had hidden financial strain.
Dismissed her concerns.
Kept control.
But Claire had responded by weaponizing the one person he loved without condition.
