Chapter 7 - Every “Bad Day” Had Been Scheduled
Ryan went back through months of family calendars.
Vanessa’s business used a shared scheduling app because sponsored shoots often affected dinners, school pickups, and rooms inside the house.
Ryan had access because he had always needed to know when crews would be present.
The calendar did not say HUMILIATE MIA.
It did not need to.
Patterns emerged.
“Real Mom Monday.”
“Reset Day.”
“Discipline Story.”
“Reaction Capture.”
The events were scheduled before several moments Ryan remembered as spontaneous.
The juice spill video had a two-hour production window.
The birthday-gift “lesson” had been entered four days before Mia opened the gift.
The birthday party itself included a note Ryan had never noticed.
Nicole — reaction coverage.
Ryan felt sick.
The content was not documenting conflict.
Conflict was being anticipated as a production asset.
Lauren confirmed one more fact.
Engagement on ordinary family content had declined sharply.
Nicole had proposed stronger emotional hooks.
Lauren claimed she repeatedly warned them not to manipulate Mia.
“But you kept representing them.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Lauren paused.
“Because they were making money, Ryan.”
At least she was honest.
Then came another piece.
Three weeks before the birthday, Vanessa had contacted Mia’s school counselor.
Not with an accusation.
With a concern.
She told the counselor Mia had been “emotionally volatile” and sometimes afraid when Ryan became angry.
The counselor had noted it but had no independent reason to believe Mia was unsafe.
Ryan learned about the conversation only because Vanessa later referenced it during their legal dispute.
His attorney obtained the date through ordinary disclosure between counsel.
Ryan stared at Dana.
“She contacted the school before the birthday?”
“Yes.”
“Before Mia said she was supposed to accuse me.”
“Yes.”
That mattered.
The false story had not been invented after Ryan caught them.
Something was already being built.
Dana warned him.
“Do not assume motive yet.”
Ryan nodded.
But three facts now sat together.
The scheduled emotional content.
Vanessa’s pre-birthday contact with the school.
