Chapter 13 - THE EVIDENCE THAT DIDN’T NEED A SPEECH
Clara prepared for the hospital review with facts rather than accusations.
The university produced the original permission letter containing her signature.
A digital analyst showed where the signature had been copied into the vendor proposal.
The VIP reception register proved Haley entered under Clara’s badge.
The event photographer provided the assignment email instructing him to capture Haley with trustees and Second Shift displays.
Former consulting clients supplied Haley’s messages.
The clinic audit documented inflated invoices and undisclosed conflicts.
Aunt June’s trust records established that Robert took credit for money he did not provide and redirected part of the education fund toward Haley’s expenses.
St. Catherine’s procurement officer confirmed that Hale Construction received extra scoring because its proposal appeared to include a physician-led community clinic.
The contract would not necessarily have gone to Robert without that score.
One final piece came from Diane.
She requested a private meeting with Clara two days before the review.
Diane admitted she created the reception program using material Haley supplied. Robert approved it. Diane knew Clara had not authorized Haley’s title.
“Why tell me now?” Clara asked.
“Robert says I was responsible for all communications.”
“You were responsible for some.”
Diane nodded.
“I’m tired of carrying his part too.”
She agreed to submit a statement but asked Clara not to mention that Haley’s nursing program had dismissed her.
Clara refused to hide relevant credentials, though she agreed not to humiliate Haley beyond what the review required.
That boundary surprised Diane.
She had expected revenge.
Clara wanted correction.
The hospital offered Robert one final opportunity to withdraw the bid before the formal presentation of evidence.
He declined.
