CHAPTER 5

Richard’s face changed.

It was quick.

A flash of anger under the expensive calm.

Emily saw it and knew she had touched the truth.

Vanessa’s smile faded.

Richard stepped between them. “Enough.”

Emily held the folder tighter. “I know about the transfer papers.”

The room went still.

“I know about the bank account in Delaware,” she continued. “I know about the forged board consent. I know Vanessa was promised a seat after I was removed.”

Richard stared at her.

For the first time in months, he had no prepared sigh, no gentle public concern, no fake sadness.

Just rage.

Vanessa whispered, “Richard.”

Emily took one step back toward the sofa, not because she wanted to retreat, but because he had moved too close.

Richard leaned in.

“You think anyone will believe you?”

Emily’s voice trembled, but it did not break.

“They won’t have to. Daniel has copies.”

Richard’s control snapped.

His hands shot forward.

May you like

He shoved her hard backward and downward.

Emily lost balance and collapsed onto the ornate cream sofa.
