Chapter 6 - THE HUSBAND WHO WANTED TO BE THE ONLY FOUNDER

Silas and I built Vale Meridian together.
That truth became another weapon during the investigation because neither of us remembered the early years the same way.
He wrote the first routing engine.
I found the first customers.
He loved product.
I understood operations.
He could enter a conference room and make people believe the future had arrived ten minutes early.
I knew which promises would bankrupt us.
For years, that balance worked.
Then reporters started calling him the founder.
Singular.
I laughed the first few times.
Silas never corrected them.
When investors praised my discipline, he said I was “the adult supervision.”
When they praised his vision, he said nothing.
After we married, those differences became personal.
My name appeared on fewer presentations.
His appeared larger on press releases.
By the time Odalys arrived, he had begun treating my caution as disloyalty.
Rebecca found messages between them.
Odalys: She thinks the company needs her signature because she still believes she built half of it.
Silas: She did.
Odalys: Then fix the cap table before the baby comes.
Another message:
If Harbor Nine takes control, she’ll blame you.
Silas: Not if she signs the transition.
That phrase again.
Transition.
The hospital documents were not created in one night.
For almost two months, Silas and Odalys had been planning to remove me from operational authority.
The pregnancy gave them timing.
The affair gave Odalys influence.
Harbor Nine gave them financial pressure.
But something still did not fit.
Silas hated feeling dependent on my father.
If he discovered Marcus had secretly funded Vale Meridian, his pride should have made him furious.
Instead, he began cooperating with entities connected to Marcus’s old network.
Why?
Rebecca obtained one message that answered part of it.
Adrian Cole to Silas:
Marcus Reyes built your company and never trusted you enough to tell you. I can help you take back what should have been yours from the beginning.
May you like
That was the wound Adrian chose.
And Silas had opened it willingly.
