Claire gave a formal statement in the reopened review.
She did not make herself heroic.
She described filming the clip.
Richard’s instruction not to circulate it.
Her decision to keep it private.
Her messages defending Austin before she understood the full timeline.
Her later realization that the original investigation may not have possessed the file.
Mark Devlin reviewed the statement with her.
“You could phrase this more favorably.”
“Meaning?”
“You could emphasize that you followed what you reasonably believed was a communications restriction.”
“Was that true?”
“Mostly.”
Claire shook her head.
“Then ‘mostly’ belongs in the record too.”
She had spent her professional life helping organizations say accurate things under pressure.
Somehow she had exempted her own family.
No more.
Austin amended his earlier statement as well.
He admitted Richard pressured him.
He admitted he chose to resume operations despite the safety halt.
He admitted he omitted parts of the father-son exchange from his first account because he feared both personal consequences and damage to Richard.
That decision could hurt him professionally.
He made it anyway.
Eleanor gave her own statement about Richard’s comments after the accident.
Claire learned only that she had cooperated.
She did not ask to read it.
Richard did not cooperate voluntarily beyond what counsel advised.
He denied intending to override safety personnel.
He characterized his comments as motivational, not operational.
That distinction would be assessed by people other than his children.
Claire accepted that.
The Atlanta assault was simpler.
Video.
Witnesses.
Injury documentation.
Richard eventually entered a negotiated resolution that included accountability for the assault, compliance with a protective order, and counseling requirements.
It was not the public destruction gossip accounts wanted.
