But it did not solve everything.

Meredith’s admissions mattered, but her attorney disputed how much could be inferred from each incident.
The iron episode itself rested on multiple forms of evidence.

Meredith’s own evolving account.
The position of the iron.
The burn pattern.
The damaged wall.
The towel.
The camera footage capturing enough of the room to establish who was present and when.
There would be no single dramatic file played in court that explained every month.
Real accountability came from accumulation.
Meanwhile, Caleb’s own case moved separately.
He accepted responsibility for assaulting June.
His attorney negotiated within the ordinary process.
Caleb did not ask June to soften her statement.
He did not contact her privately about the case.
He did not use his wealth or business connections to pressure anyone.
That restraint cost him.
News of the household incident reached two board members at his company.
Caleb voluntarily disclosed what happened before rumors distorted it.
One director asked whether he should temporarily step back from day-to-day leadership.
Caleb agreed to reduced duties during the review.
Six months earlier he would have viewed that as humiliation.
Now he understood something different.
Consequences were not the same thing as destruction.
Sometimes they were simply evidence that rules applied to you too.
Elara continued healing.
A pediatric specialist believed she would recover well physically, though the family was advised to watch for fear responses around hot objects and sudden conflict as she grew.
Caleb removed the iron from the nursery permanently.
Not because irons were inherently dangerous.
Because nobody should have been using one beside a crib in the first place.
That obvious fact embarrassed him.
So many household habits had developed around convenience rather than thought.
He began rebuilding the home differently.
Restricted access.
Clear caregiver rules.
No relatives acting as informal authority simply because they were relatives.
And no security camera password shared casually with anyone.
