Chapter 14 - No One Left Innocent
The mediation lasted two afternoons and produced corrections, not confession. Wyatt admitted he had coached Harper, lied about work hours, redirected pay, and expected Claire’s anger to make her file first. Renee admitted accepting treatment money while repeating that Claire kept Wyatt trapped. Harper described the rehearsed insults and admitted using them. Claire stated plainly that she had shoved Harper and controlled household finances long after his tax crisis. Their accounts made one clear and ugly pattern. The agreement required this: Wyatt would lease a room near the garage, repay the diverted funds monthly, surrender joint-card access, and remain in financial counseling. Claire would eat the hotel bill and attend therapy for anger and control. Harper could contact Claire directly, never through relatives. No one left innocent. No one left ruined. When Wyatt returned for clothes, he started clearing the island by habit. Claire stopped him. “Leave it,” she said. For once, he did.
