CHAPTER 6

CHAPTER 6

The judge ordered temporary emergency custody before lunch.

Full custody to me.

Supervised visitation suspended pending investigation.

Evan’s access to Lily’s school, medical records, and my home was restricted immediately.

When the words left the judge’s mouth, I felt Lily’s little fingers squeeze mine.

“Does that mean I go home with you?” she whispered.

I swallowed hard.

“Yes, baby.”

Evan stood so suddenly his chair scraped the floor.

“This is ridiculous. She’s poisoning my daughter against me.”

Judge Whitaker’s voice cut through the room.

“Sit down, Mr. Whitman.”

He sat.

Not because he respected her.

Because deputies were standing close enough to make consequences visible.

The investigation moved quickly after that.

Security footage from a gas station near our house showed Evan near the SUV at 5:43 that morning.

A neighbor’s doorbell camera showed him carrying a small tool bag.

His phone location placed him at the roadside auto lot minutes before he claimed he had just “found us.”

Then came the worst part.

A draft email on his laptop, never sent, addressed to his attorney.

Claire failed to appear today as expected. I believe this proves she is reckless, unstable, and unable to prioritize Lily’s welfare.

As expected.

Those two words made the courtroom tilt when my attorney read them during the follow-up hearing.

He had not hoped I would miss court.

He had planned for it.

Mark testified simply.

No drama.

No big speech.

Just facts.

Clean cut.

Fresh fluid.

Child in vehicle.

Husband arrived before being called.

Evan’s attorney tried to make him look like an opportunist.

May you like

Mark looked straight at the judge and said, “I don’t know Mrs. Whitman. I know what sabotage looks like.”

That was enough.
