Chapter 7 - THE CAMERA DIDN’T SHOW NEGLECT
The building manager delivered the preserved footage through David’s attorney.
Rachel Feldman reviewed it first.
Then David and Maya watched only the segments relevant to their apartment.
The timeline was devastating.
December 23.
A grocery delivery arrived.
Bonnie carried most of it into the apartment.
Two hours later, security footage showed her leaving with three full bags and placing them into Lauren’s SUV.
December 25.
Meal-service delivery.
Bonnie opened the door.
Later footage showed containers leaving with visiting relatives.
December 27.
Maya shuffled slowly toward the hallway in pajamas, one hand against her abdomen.
Bonnie followed carrying cleaning supplies.
December 28.
Wes Nolan arrived for the first time.
Bonnie walked him through the apartment.
Maya was asleep in the bedroom.
Wes took notes.
December 29.
Bonnie removed two sealed formula containers.
That afternoon she photographed the refrigerator.
David stopped the video.
“She emptied it.”
Maya said nothing.
They continued.
December 30.
Wes returned.
Bonnie stood near Liam’s bassinet.
She opened the document folder.
The audio was faint but usable.
Wes said:
“If your attorney is talking emergency relief, they’ll want objective proof she can’t manage.”
Bonnie answered:
“I’m giving you proof.”
Wes:
“Photographs need context, Bonnie.”
She replied:
“The context is I’m the only reason that baby is being cared for.”
Maya’s face went white.
Wes did not appear to participate in staging anything.
In fact, later footage showed him questioning Bonnie.
“Why is the fridge empty if you’re the one shopping?”
Bonnie’s response could not be heard.
Then came the cash handoff.
The money was an investigator retainer Bonnie had apparently agreed to pay in cash after exceeding the amount placed on a card.
The sinister stranger at the door was becoming something more realistic.
A professional hired by a woman telling him a distorted story.
But one clip changed the entire meaning.
At 4:12 p.m. on December 30, after Wes left, Bonnie carried the formula and grocery bags back into the apartment.
She put them inside the pantry.
Then at 4:26, she removed them again.
At 4:40, Lauren arrived.
Bonnie told her:
“She still hasn’t bought food.”
Lauren stood in the hallway, unaware the same food had been moved twice within the hour.
Maya covered her mouth.
David felt physically ill.
“This wasn’t neglect,” he said.
“No.”
“It was staging.”
Rachel corrected him gently.
“It appears to be deliberate manipulation of the conditions being documented. Let investigators reach their own conclusion.”
Facts.
Again.
Maya nodded.
Then she noticed something on the footage.
“Go back.”
David rewound.
Bonnie had placed a folded sheet on the kitchen counter before photographing the empty formula container.
The same handwritten cleaning note David found New Year’s Eve.
Maya stared.
“She wanted that in the picture.”

It was evidence Bonnie had manufactured for someone else to see.
