The messages had been sent from our home network while Maya was still hospitalized after delivery.

Eleanor had access to the apartment and Maya’s open laptop.

The clinic replied that emergencies required calling 911 or going to an emergency department. It also warned that a spouse could not simply arrange involuntary admission without an evaluation and legal criteria.

Eleanor did not reply.

Instead, she forwarded the clinic’s response to herself.

That email later appeared in a folder Chloe took from my office.

My mother had been collecting materials that looked official without following the procedures that would have exposed the lie.

The detective asked whether I had ever discussed Maya’s mental health with Eleanor.

I had.

During Maya’s pregnancy, I told my mother about a panic attack Maya experienced in college. I described how stress made her lose sleep and stop eating.

Months earlier, I gave Eleanor my login when she stayed with us during a plumbing emergency. I never changed the password.

The restored clip showed Maya shouting at Eleanor and knocking a bottle from her hand.

My mother had mentioned that incident to the police.

Eleanor had tried to feed Liam a bottle prepared hours earlier and left at room temperature. Maya took it away. Eleanor grabbed Maya’s wrist. Maya knocked the bottle to the floor while pulling free.

The camera did not show every angle. It showed enough to make both versions arguable.

My mother’s attorney contacted Maya’s attorney and accused her of selectively presenting footage.

The claim threatened her credibility.

It also exposed a weakness in our evidence: the cameras captured events, not intentions.

The financial records suggested motive, but Eleanor could still argue she believed Maya was unstable and acted out of misguided concern.
