Chapter 8 - THE TRIP MADeline MADE WITHOUT TELLING HIM

Madeline returned to Las Vegas three weeks later.

Not to confront Daniel.

He had already come home.

She went because Olivia’s attorney requested a meeting concerning the ceremony and Carter Hospitality records.

The Stellan Crown hotel had hosted Daniel and Olivia.

Northline also used it for executive events.

That was why Madeline possessed the black-and-gold executive access card Olivia would later notice.

It did not make Madeline the owner.

It made her a known corporate client with prearranged executive privileges.

Daniel had used those privileges during the trip.

Without Madeline.

The hotel’s general manager confirmed something embarrassing.

Daniel had told staff he was traveling under Northline’s executive relationship.

Madeline closed her eyes.

“Did he use my name?”

“Yes.”

“Did anyone verify?”

The manager looked uncomfortable.

“Your profile historically listed him as spouse guest.”

Another boundary Madeline had never removed.

The hotel upgraded Daniel because of Madeline’s corporate relationship.

That upgraded suite became the location of his wedding-night celebration with Olivia.

Madeline almost laughed.

Her marriage had financed its own humiliation in loyalty points and corporate access.

She authorized Northline to remove Daniel from every travel profile immediately.

Then she met Olivia.

Face-to-face.

Luxury suite.

City lights.

Olivia wore a red dress.

Madeline wore ivory because she had come directly from a Northline client dinner.

The visual cruelty was almost theatrical.

Olivia held her phone.

“Keep the picture,” she said. “It’s all you have left.”

Madeline stared.

Even after everything, Olivia still needed to win something.

Then Daniel appeared from the bedroom.

He had flown back that afternoon after learning both women were meeting.

“What are you doing here?”

Madeline looked at him.

Daniel moved toward her phone.

“I married her. Deal with it.”

Madeline stepped away.

He stopped.

“The house, the money—none of it survives without me.”

Madeline looked toward the black envelope in her handbag.

Olivia followed her gaze.

Madeline removed it.

Daniel recognized the Alder House ownership copy.

The prenup.

Northline’s legal notice.

“You never checked whose name owns everything.”

His face changed.

The sentence was not literally about every asset.

Daniel had real property claims.

Real marital rights.

Real business ownership.

But the things he had been promising Olivia were not automatically his.

Daniel reached toward the envelope.

Stopped.

Olivia looked at him.

“What did you lie about?”

Nobody answered before counsel entered from the adjoining room.

The confrontation ended there.

Not with screaming.

With documents.

The meeting produced a bigger surprise.

Olivia had brought a separate envelope.

Inside was a copy of an agreement Daniel asked her to sign after the Vegas ceremony.

It pledged her future Carter Hospitality equity as security for a loan from one of Daniel’s private lenders.

Equity she did not yet own.
