Chapter 4 - The Dinner Where the Truth Took Her Seat
Two days later, the Keller Northstar board gathered inside the mansion’s formal dining room.
Lorraine had insisted the meeting be held there. She believed the house, the family portraits, and her late husband’s name would remind everyone who truly deserved control.
Audrey arrived with Dana and Micah’s court-appointed advocate.
Micah remained safely with a pediatric nurse at a nearby recovery center. Audrey had refused to bring him back into the room where he had learned to fear adults.
Graham sat at the head of the table. Sabrina remained in the adjoining room with Theo, visible through the open doors. Lorraine occupied the chair beside her son.
“You’re destroying your child’s family to win a corporate argument,” Lorraine said.
Audrey took the empty seat opposite Graham.
“No. I’m ending a corporate fraud that was used to destroy my child.”
Dana distributed the documents.
The board reviewed the hidden losses, the diverted company funds, and the payments made to Sabrina through a consulting business registered at her sister’s apartment in New Jersey.
Graham claimed Audrey had authorized the transfers.
Then Dana played a recording from the afternoon Audrey returned home.
Lorraine’s voice filled the room.
“He belongs on the floor until he learns.”
Graham followed.
“You weren’t supposed to come today.”
No one moved.
Audrey presented the medical findings, the blocked call logs, and the false developmental reports. Tyler Mason, a young IT employee whom Sabrina had ordered to reroute Audrey’s messages, joined by video and confirmed the instructions.
Sabrina rushed into the dining room.
“Graham told me Audrey wanted nothing to do with Micah.”
Audrey looked at her. “Did he also tell you to call my son a floor crawler?”
Sabrina’s confidence collapsed.
“I was trying to keep Lorraine happy.”
“You were living in my house, spending company money, and helping them erase a four-year-old.”
Graham stood abruptly.
“I made mistakes, but I’m still Micah’s father.”
Audrey’s composure finally cracked.
“A father notices when his son stops walking.”
The room fell silent.
“A father does not lower his eyes while someone calls his child an embarrassment. A father does not send his wife across the country, place his lover in her chair, and let his mother turn his son’s fear into a legal strategy.”
Graham sat down.
The board vote was unanimous.
He was removed as chief executive immediately. An independent investigation would determine the extent of the financial misconduct. Sabrina’s contract was terminated, and every payment to her consulting company was frozen.
Lorraine rose, furious.
“This company bears my husband’s name.”
Audrey met her eyes.
“And you used that name to justify cruelty.”
The court advocate stepped forward and handed Lorraine a temporary protective order.
